“Here’s what it’s all about. Wanted to buy a car for my eldest granddaughter who turns 16 on Mar 5th. Back in Sept I joined CARS4.BID and bid on this 2018 Honda Accord Sport with 88k miles. I won the auction and the car was delivered at a final cost of $8,100 and change.

It needed both doors, complete B pillar, two airbags, complete grille and bumper, and some other things. The previous owner lowered it with Eibach springs and put ugly Rohana wheels on it. It has Brembo front brakes. Fortunately, I found a scrap yard in Jacksonville that had the doors and they cut the complete B pillar out for me. I had the airbag controller reprogrammed and got two airbags online from A1 parts. I got rid of the lowering springs and went with stock springs and struts all around. New rotors and pads all around and new stock wheels and tires. Fortunately, I have a garage/man cave with a lift and, in my 70 years, I’ve always worked on cars and can weld, paint, etc.

With the help of my son, I started working on it in October, took a month off for illness, and finally finished it last week. We kept it secret from her until yesterday when I presented it to her.

She was thrilled and, needless to say, was overwhelmed. It was certainly worth the effort to see her reaction. She’s a straight-A student and a very good kid. All she kept saying was OMG, OMG, OMG!

All in, about $11,500 because I replaced every safety-related part on the car. Still, these are $21,000 retail in today’s market, so I came in just a little over 50%, which is our goal when buying auction vehicles.

Thanks to CARS4.BID for making this happen. My next project? Fixing front-end damage on a 2004 Lexus I bought from CARS4.BID in October. This one is for me.”

Buying from IAAI and Copart salvage auctions lets you find affordable used cars for sale, whether you’re looking for a repairable car at auction or a project car to rebuild. You can get a salvage car at auction and restore it at a fraction of the market price.
