Hey guys! We’ve all seen or heard about the Tesla Roadster, which was recently unveiled. A car that can fly and accelerate much faster than any other car in the world is super cool. But this car will never be affordable for most people. So let’s talk about why Elon Musk doesn’t want to build a cheap EV and why he even needs the Roadster, especially since the version with all those fans and rockets in the back won’t be allowed on public roads. Let’s go!
Let’s start with the fact that the Roadster is one of the craziest things we’ve ever seen. It could start a whole new trend in the car industry. And who knows? Maybe one day we’ll finally have real flying cars.

Yes, Tesla is the future, and the Roadster is probably the best example of it. But how many people can afford a $250K car? Sure, Elon Musk is the richest man in the world, and he can spend his funds however he wants. And yes, he’s done more than anyone else to make electric cars successful. But why is his next step a flying car that will cost at $250K and will only be available to a small number of people, instead of a car that costs less than $25K? Why?

Tesla once planned to build a car that would cost less than $25,000, but then changed its plans. Musk even said that building a car for under $25K would be ‘silly” and “pointless.’ To be honest, it’s pretty disappointing that he thinks a cheap EV is more silly and pointless than a car that might fly…. Every day, our customers buy EVs through us at Copart and IAAI auctions for just 30-40% of their retail value. Why do they do that? Because we want cheap EVs!
Maybe Tesla thinks there are more customers for a $250K electric sports car than for a $25K family EV. But you know what? In just the last two months, almost 22,000 EVs were sold at salvage auctions for a total of $231 million.

The average price was just $10,5K. Just think about those numbers! These cars will be repaired, get new titles, and end up being worth around $20–$25K. That’s exactly what everyone is looking for. A truly affordable EV.
Have you noticed that Chevrolet, Toyota, and Ford offer lots of different cars at different prices? So why doesn’t Tesla want to do the same? The Roadster is super cool, but wouldn’t it be even cooler if there was an affordable Model 2 parked in front of every house?
Luckily, Elon Musk doesn’t have to solve this problem if he doesn’t want to. Any of us can find a cheap car at Copart or IAAI. And it doesn’t even have to be an EV. You can buy almost any car for 30-50% of its retail price. And don’t believe people who tell you that you’re going to get a salvage car. There are plenty of cars with clean titles at these auctions. And if you want a car with almost no damage, that’s easy too. You can choose a theft recovery vehicle, a repossession, or even a car with just minor dents and scratches.
And trust me, sooner or later, even this crazy Tesla Roadster will end up at an auction, where you’ll be able to buy it for much, much less.
