Copart Damaged My Car!

Last edit: June 07 2026 • 212 view

Hey guys, today we want to share a very surprising and unusual story that happened to us recently. As you may know, most vehicles at Copart and IAAI have some damage, but sometimes you can also find vehicles with no damage or only minor damage. One of our customers bought a 2025 Honda CR-V listed as normal wear. Almost a new car, no visible damage – what could go wrong? Let’s check it out!

First, let’s talk about the car. It was a 2025 Honda CR-V with only 10,406 miles. The damage was listed as normal wear & tear, and we did not see any visible damage in the pictures.

Basically, it looked like a nearly new car. The final bid was only $17,500, while the retail price starts at around $36K So it looked like a great deal. We were happy, the customer was happy – win-win for all. But sometimes problems happen when you least expect them….

Our customer came to the Copart yard to pick up the vehicle and could not believe what he saw. The car was not the same as in the pictures. He sent us photos, and the vehicle had serious front damage.

Of course, he did not want the vehicle anymore for that price, and we completely understood him. Nobody wants to be in this situation…

So we immediately contacted the Copart yard manager and explained that the vehicle had received additional damage at the yard, and that we could not pick it up in that condition. Copart checked everything and confirmed that the vehicle was damaged while it was at their yard. In the end, the sale was canceled, and we refunded the payment to our customer. So everything ended well. The customer was happy again and continued looking for another vehicle.

But you may ask: how did this happen? Actually, it is pretty easy to explain. Copart often moves vehicles around the yard using large forklifts. Most likely, they were moving another vehicle, and the driver was not careful enough. Another vehicle hit this CR-V, and it received additional front damage.

The situation ended well, but the main lesson is simple: we will always do everything we can to help you if there is a real issue with the vehicle’s condition. But please understand that a sale can be canceled only in serious cases. It cannot be canceled just because you expected the vehicle to be in better condition and it did not meet your expectations.

So how can you reduce the risks? Ask us for a Copart report. We can buy it for you, and you will receive extra pictures and videos to better understand the vehicle’s condition. Also, check the vehicle history on VIN.Doctor before placing a bid. This way, you can see previous sales and the vehicle’s past condition. And of course, contact us if you have any doubts or questions. We are sure we can help you find a great deal.
